Your year starts here.

Humana Plan Year 2020 certification and recertification are now open!

What are certification and recertification?

In order to sell Medicare plans, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requires that every Agent – that’s you! – needs to complete annual Medicare and product-specific trainings.

We’ve improved the process with:

An earlier launch date

Course outlines cut nearly in half

Exam quick reference tool

Extended test time of 45 mins

What are the costs?

Humana offers AHIP training for a discounted registration fee of $125.00 ($50 off) if you access it through Humana MarketPoint University.

Please Note: any Agent who accesses their AHIP training directly through AHIP will have to pay the full $175.00 registration fee and transfer the results without reimbursement.

You need certification if:

You’re new to either Humana or Medicare (or both), or you didn’t recertify with Humana last year.

You need recertification if:

You’re a Humana Medicare Agent who either certified or recertified with Humana last year.

Certification 101

Who?

Anyone who has never sold Medicare with Humana – even if you sold Medicare with another carrier – has to complete initial certification. Same goes for Agents who have sold Humana Medicare products before but didn’t recertify with Humana the previous year (if that’s you, we missed you).

What?

Before you can sell Humana’s Medicare Advantage and PDP plans, you need to pass two training courses: one focused on the basics of Medicare, and the other focused on Humana’s products.

When?

Technically, there’s no deadline for your initial certification. However, you can’t sell Humana’s Medicare Advantage or PDP products until you finish certification.

How?

After you’re approved to contract with Humana, you’ll get instructions on how to certify. You’ll need to take two courses: AHIP training and a Humana-specific training. AHIP covers CMS-approved Medicare basics, while the Humana course goes over compliance, products, and general guidance. You’ll have 45 minutes for each test, and you need to pass both within your first three (3) tries to get certified.

Recertification 101

Who?

Did you sell Humana Medicare products last year? Do you want to sell them again this year? If you said yes to both, then recertification is for you.

What?

Similarly to certification, you need to pass a Medicare basics course and Humana’s product-specific course in order to sell our Medicare Advantage and PDP plans. These courses are reinforcements and updates of the information you learned during your initial certification.

When?

If you plan to sell Humana’s Medicare products for Plan Year 2020, you must recertify prior to selling 2020 plans and by 5:00 PM EST on November 30th, 2019. Recertification courses will launch on June 25th*, so you’ll have plenty of time to complete them.

*NOTE: Spanish versions will be delayed until after the June 25th launch. Look for additional communications on Spanish versions.

How?

If you’re recertifying, you’ll need to pass two courses: AHIP training and a Humana-specific training. AHIP training covers CMS-approved Medicare basics, while the Humana course goes over compliance, Humana’s products and tools, and general Agent guidance. You’ll have 45 minutes for each test, and you need to pass both within your first three (3) tries to be able to recertify.
